"When we saw the dimension of the love Mr. Aymar shared and how his students were inspired, the Michael Aymar Foundation became the only step to take."
Mission Statement
The Michael Aymar Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization providing financial support students in grades 5-8 enrolled in Catholic School. Mr. Aymar believed that children are “God’s best thing” and Catholic education provides the best environment for learning not only math, science, and grammar (his specialty), but essential values like compassion, self-reliance, and respect. To preserve the legacy of this beloved teacher and wordsmith who ignited a passion for learning in his students, the Foundation offers the following:
- The NASHDO Scholarship - Deriving its name from one of his memorable grammar lessons, “Not All Sentences Have Direct Objects,” the scholarship acknowledges that “Not All Students Have Decent Options” following a catastrophic family event such as illness, death, or job loss and gives emergency assistance to qualified Middle School students (those who demonstrate a “desire to aspire” regardless of grade point average). Mr. Aymar is remembered for the emotional support he gave his students, many of whom viewed him as a father figure. Through NASHDO, he continues to help children through difficult times.
- Language Arts Tutoring - Mr. Aymar was a master teacher, able to find the “lost sheep” even in a crowded flock. He worked tirelessly with struggling students, requiring only that they demonstrate the will to try. His students have gone on to win scholarships, earn degrees, and pursue successful careers; now, they carry on his tradition by sharing his timeless lessons and unique instructional style with current middle school students in need of tutoring.
- Educational Workshops - Mr. Aymar recognized that the true value of education is demonstrated outside the classroom. The " Life-skills Workshops" are open to all Middle school students and designed to be interactive and practical. Parents are invited to participate in practical application of lessons learned.
- Forensics Grants - The Foundation will provide schools the cost of membership to participate in the North Jersey Junior Forensics League, with whom Mr. Aymar spent over two decades coaching students in the art of public speaking and enabling even the most timid among them to find a strong voice.
